T here comes a time
when you are afraid to answer the phone late at night or read the
newspaper in fear of hearing bad news. I will never forget the day that
Jason and DJ came into work and told me that Phil had died in a car
wreck. To see a grown man cry is something, but to see three is next
to impossible.
Now I think about Phil everyday and often wonder what
might have been, and I regret not being able to introduce my wife and my
newborn daughter to him. At home, I talk about him frequently, and
although Amy or Brianna have never met Phil, they feel like they have
known him their whole lives. When you talk about somebody that you
care about this much, you almost raise them to a hero status, and this is
well deserved when it comes to Phil. We all know that if not for
that one day, the one we all wish we could change, we would have Phil with
us now.
His passing still remains heavy in my heart, but I choose to
remember Phil for who he was and what he was all about. I didn't spend as
much time with him as some of the other guys, but I was still touched by
his generosity and his attitude about life. Phil was simply a really cool
person to be around and to talk with. I'll never forget the times that I
shared with him and the many things we did together.
I know that you can hear me Phil, so please listen: When you died I
was filled with so much grief that I couldn't sleep right for two weeks. Your passing bothered me very much because I knew that it was before your
time. Your wonderful life was cut short by someone's reckless act, and
that should never have happened. I will never forget you, or the time we
shared. I want you to know that I cared for you very deeply as a friend
and as a brother. I promise to always carry on your legacy and to speak of
you any chance I get. You see Phil, "Heroes are eventually forgotten, but
legends never die". Your legacy lives on, and you will always remain in my
heart because you are a true legend.
Miss you and wish you were here...
